Ask and Ye Shall Receive

About a year ago I wrote a post about selling fan fiction on Kindle:

Apparently someone at Amazon listened, because now they're announcing Kindle Worlds:

As soon as Star Trek or some of my other sci-fi favorites come on board, I'm in!

Sneak Preview: The House at the Center of the Worlds

Here is a sneak preview of another current project. Keep in mind that this is an unedited first draft of a novel I'm still writing.

He was walking down a narrow lane that wound through the hilly, deeply wooded backcountry. He hadn’t seen a house for miles, and no cars had passed for hours. The sky had been a leaden grey all afternoon, with pregnant, dark clouds smothering close to the ground and distant flashes of lightning flickering at the far reaches of his vision. The storm finally hit shortly after four, the clouds giving birth to a torrential downpour that pelted him with fat, cold drops which exploded against him with relentless fury. His clothing was quickly drenched despite the long raincoat he had earlier donned in anticipation of the storm. The road soon became a shallow river, and he waded upstream, hunkering beneath the partial shelter afforded him by the heavy backpack that weighed him down, his dripping eyes searching for more permanent shelter.
The trees to either side of the road were an impenetrable wall in the sudden gloomy, wet murk. No hope of shelter there. As he trudged along, his shoes sloshing and squishing through the current, he vainly searched for some opening in the woods, perhaps a private road leading back to a house where he might entreat the owner to wait out the storm on a porch or in a barn.
But there was nothing for nearly half a mile, just the treacherously slick road underfoot and the unyielding woods to either side.
And then, on the thick bole of a gnarly oak, he saw carved a circle with an arrow pointing to the right. Hobo code, “This Way.”

3.            An inhabitant of pre-Galactic Earth, leader of the army that overthrew the Final Islamic Caliphate, believed by some to be the Second Coming of the founder of Christianity. Distinct from the Islamic Jesus that lived during the same time period. Jesus ruled the first United Earth during the Golden Age, which lasted for a thousand years, until his assassination in the early years of the Galactic Era. Believed to be the first recipient of the Death Cure. [Full entry] [see also: Christianity, Anti-Christ, Messiah, Golden Age, United Earth, Galactic Era …]

Death Cure: One of the Lost Sciences. The Death Cure is an immortality serum that was discovered during the Golden Age. Some believe all knowledge of it was erased in order to stem the massive overcrowding that it engendered on pre-Galactic Earth. Re-discovery of the Death Cure is one of the major lines of research at most Galactic universities. [Full entry] [see also: Golden Age, subspace, FTL travel, Lost Science … ]
